Each funding partner reviews the request on its own and decides whether to offer an amount and a term.
How the single sum and fixed installments of a term loan work in practice. This page covers buying an IT services firm, a dental milling unit, long and short terms, and new dining-room furniture for a restaurant, with invented examples computed in full.

Term Loans to Buy an Existing Edison, NJ IT Services Firm
County Business Patterns counted 1,983 computer systems design and related services establishments in Middlesex County, NJ in 2023 (NAICS 5415), and 1,361 of them had fewer than five employees. A firm that small can change hands when a founder retires or a larger shop buys a client book. ZIP 08817 alone held 181 computer systems design establishments of all sizes (ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023).
To buy an existing IT services firm, a funding partner can look at the seller's tax returns, the client contracts and how much revenue repeats each month, the purchase agreement, and the buyer's own experience. A deal can mix three sources: buyer cash, a note the seller carries, and a term loan.
| Piece of the deal | Amount |
|---|---|
| Purchase price | $640,000 |
| Buyer cash (15%) | $96,000 |
| Seller note (15%) | $96,000 |
| Term loan for the rest | $448,000 |
| Monthly installment, 120 months, annual rate 10.5% | $6,045.09 |
| All 120 installments | $725,410.80 |
Term Loan for Small Business When an Edison, NJ Dental Office Needs Milling Units
Offices of dentists in Middlesex County, NJ numbered 423 in 2023 (County Business Patterns, NAICS 6212). An office that adds a chairside milling unit for same-visit crowns can end up buying more than the mill: a scanner, design software, a sintering furnace and staff training come in the same package, and only part of that is equipment a dealer can title.
Illustration only, invented figures: suppose mill, scanner, software and training come to $118,000 together. Spread across six years at an annual rate of 9.25%, the office would send $2,141.68 for each of 72 months and $154,200.96 by the last installment.
When the whole package is hardware, equipment financing fits. When software and training are a large share of the cost, a term loan for small business can carry the full amount in one schedule.
How Does a Long Term Loan Work? Notes for Gym Owners
A long term loan spreads one sum over several years. Every installment pays that month's interest first and puts the rest toward the balance, so early payments carry more interest than later ones, and the balance drops more steeply near the end.
Illustration only, invented figures: a gym owner buys a second studio's equipment, member list and lease for $210,000 with an 84-month loan at an annual rate of 11%. The level payment is $3,595.71. In month one, $1,925.00 of it is interest and $1,670.71 reduces the balance; by the final year the split runs the other way. The 84 payments total $302,039.64.
Gyms paying off a buyout over seven years should check that the membership base supports the payment in a slow month, not only in an average one.
How Does a Short Term Loan Work? What It Means for a Middlesex County, NJ Auto Repair Shop
A short term loan runs from a few months to about two years, with installments that can be monthly, weekly or daily depending on the partner. It suits a single cost with a near payoff, such as a large parts order or a slow stretch before a fleet contract pays.
| Term | Each month | Interest over the term |
|---|---|---|
| 12 months | $2,200.32 | $2,403.84 |
| 36 months | $867.66 | $7,235.76 |
Twelve months brings the bigger installment and the smaller interest bill; stretching to 36 months turns that around.
Middlesex County, NJ had 280 auto repair and maintenance shops with fewer than five employees in 2023 (County Business Patterns, NAICS 8111). For a shop that size, the monthly figure can matter as much as the total, and a line of credit is the alternative when the need repeats.
Line of Credit vs. Fixed Term Loan for Dining-Room Furniture and Fixtures: An Edison, NJ Restaurant Example
Tables, chairs, freestanding booths, a host stand and a wine display case for a dining room are movable purchases, and they can be paid for with a fixed term loan or carried on a line of credit and paid down. Walls, plumbing and other changes to the structure count as property work, and this site does not arrange funding for them.
| Route | Each month | Interest |
|---|---|---|
| Line of credit, paid down evenly over 24 months, annual rate 13.5% | $2,866.62 | $8,798.88 |
| Fixed term loan, 60 months, annual rate 10.75% | $1,297.08 | $17,824.80 |
In this invented case the line costs less interest in total, but only for a kitchen that can carry the much higher monthly paydown for two years.
A fixed term loan also keeps the line open for food orders and payroll gaps. The funding options page compares the two in more general terms.
Term-loan examples also appear in three blog articles, on buying an existing nail salon, dental imaging and a practice purchase and a full gym equipment package.
